Professor P.K. Ravindranath with his wife Tara |
Professor P.K. Ravindranath, a man of integrity and uniqueness, died on Monday, 18th February 2013, at his residence in Kala Nagar, Bandra East, 44, Patrakar Colony, Mumbai, at 5:00 pm. He was 86 and is survived by his wife Tara and three children Jayesh, Anuja and Naresh.
Barring the The Asian Age and the Afternoon Voice, no English paper carried the bereavement news of a veteran journalist-writer-editor-teacher and social activist of over six decades of dedicated services. I feel that the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), which is claiming India’s largest independent newswire, ridiculed Prof. P.K. Ravindranath by publishing the trivial news of his demise as under:
"Veteran journalist, writer and teacher PK Ravindranath passed away in Mumbai on Monday, a family friend said. He had throat cancer.
He was 86 and is survived by his wife Tara, a daughter and two sons.
A former media advisor to the then Maharashtra chief minister Sharad Pawar, Ravindranath also served as director of Nehru Centre in Mumbai.
He worked in various newspapers, including the National Herald, and scripted English sub-titles for Malayalam movies. He had authored a book, Slice of Life. — IANS"
The IANS contained Professor P.K. Ravindranath’s importance and reputed media houses like The Hindu, Zee News, dnaindia.com (news portal of DNA newspaper) and the English website of Malayalam newspaper Madhyamam (www.madhyamam.com/en/node/9233) carried IANS news without applying their wisdom and commonsense. Several Indian news portals across the world blindly posted the same IANS version.
Here the so-called new generation journalists proved their lethargy and disloyalty.

I am happy at least I could correct some misconceptions of people, particularly the young people, by publishing an obituary article in The Afternoon & Despatch Courier, and other articles in news portals www.allvoices.com, www.merinews.com and my blog http://sasidharannair.blogspot.com.
